To master Reiki therapy, it’s best not to rely solely on self-study or mimic what you learn from online courses. Instead, receiving attunement training in person is ideal. Do you know why?
To truly acquire Reiki skills, receiving an “attunement” is essential. But this isn’t just about learning theory or copying techniques from a teacher. Attunement is essentially tuning—like tuning a musical instrument. Instruments often go out of tune with use, so we recalibrate them. Reiki attunement works similarly: it’s a way of tuning the human body energy.
Naturally, our bodies have Reiki energy flowing through them, and we maintain vitality through external energy sources. Usui Reiki therapy enables us to channel that energy effectively through our hands for healing.
If energy flows within us, but not through our hands, doesn’t that seem odd? Especially when Japanese has the word “te-a-te” (手当て), which literally means “hand healing.” Originally, “te-a-te” referred to healing by placing hands—not just prescribing medicine or applying bandages by doctors.
Attunement reactivates this innate healing ability. Unfortunately, you can’t perform attunement on yourself—it must be received from a Reiki Shihan (teacher). And once attuned, you should be able to use Reiki. If you have questions afterward, don’t hesitate to ask your Reiki master.
Also, joining group practice sessions and receiving short attunement for your Reiki maintenance after your attunement training is highly recommended!
